Janis Sanders is an accomplished oil painter, who has won awards
for his distinctive painting style. He paints with a palette knife,
often en plein air.
Incorporating elements of American Realism, Modernism, and
Impressionism, his paintings transform those influences into a
contemporary vocabulary all his own. Through it, his paintings
convey a visual drama that deftly balances the infinite and the
immediate. Quite often, his works convey the fleeting dazzle
of sunlight blasting or caressing a surface.
Janis paints muscularly, spontaneously, and vigorously, and,
throughout the year, outdoors. Painting excursions take
him from the coast of Maine to the marshes of Greater Boston's
North Shore, to the sand dunes of the Outer Cape.
He is represented by galleries throughout New England and in Santa Fe.
His work hangs in hundreds of collections in the U. S. and overseas.
